I have not actively played minecraft since i reported this issue, but based on the infrequent comments which keep reconfirming it, it's likely still an issue. You get invisibility with no particles! But if it is installed at all, then we have just a great excuse to drink a potion of invisibility! You also still make sound when you walk and have particle of the potion around you.

You can also make invisibility potions that you can use on other players. In minecraft, you can brew a potion of invisibility (3:00) and add it to your inventory. Once i found the invisible mob, i relaunched minecraft without optifine and then the zombie was actually visible, and i could interact.
